How Skyyn works
A scan takes one photo and about 15 seconds. Here is what happens between pressing the shutter and seeing your Skyyn Score, and what you can do with the result.
Taking a scan
Set up the photo
Open the camera from the Scan button on the Home tab, or pick a photo from your library. Face a window or a lamp so the light falls evenly on both cheeks, hold the phone at eye level, and pull your hair back from your cheeks and jaw.
Fit your face in the oval
The camera takes three frames and keeps the sharpest. You then adjust the photo so your face fills the oval guide and confirm the frame. Skyyn uploads that single still image. It never records or uploads video.
The photo is checked
Before anything is scored, the photo has to show one real, front-facing face that is large and clear enough to read. A cartoon, a group shot, a face turned too far to the side or a badly blurred photo is turned away with a short note on what to change. A photo that is turned away does not use up your weekly free scan.
Your skin is scored
The analysis notes what is visible across nine regions of the face, then produces four sub-scores and the Skyyn Score. All of this happens on our servers; nothing is scored on your phone.
The score is revealed
The ring counts up to your Skyyn Score. You see your personal best, or a note that you have just set a new one, and the sub-score with the most room to grow.
You can take your first scan before creating an account. The result is held for you and moves into your account when you sign in with Apple, Google or an emailed code. If you never sign in, the photo and result are deleted within about 8 days.

"Worth watching" is deliberately slow to appear. One scan is never enough to flag a pattern. When something does keep showing up, Skyyn describes what is visible, does not name a condition, and links to the American Academy of Dermatology's dermatologist finder in case you want a professional opinion.
What happens when you keep scanning
One score is a snapshot. The app becomes useful from the third or fourth scan, when there is something to compare.
- Your first three scans become your baseline for what is visible. The Progress tab shows what has become more or less visible since then: one item on free, all of them on Pro.
- Each new score is compared with the middle value of your three most recent scans. A change is shown only at 5 points or more. Anything smaller is steady.
- The trend chart plots every scan and marks your best.
- Compare (Pro) lets you pick any two scans, drag a slider between the two photos and read what moved, area by area. If the two photos were lit very differently, the app says so.
- Recaps (Pro) summarise the week and the month when you have scanned at least twice in that week or month.
Weekly is the pace the app is built around. The free tier includes one completed scan every 7 days, and reminders can nudge you on the day. Skyyn Pro removes the weekly limit for people who want to scan more often. Why small changes are not shown.
Before your first upload
The first time you scan, the app explains that the photos you approve are sent to our AI providers, Anthropic and Google, to produce your result, and asks you to agree. You can read the privacy policy from that screen or decline. What happens to your photos.
Scope. Skyyn is a personal skincare assistant, not a dermatologist. Readings reflect what is visible in your photo, not a medical diagnosis.
